Mewing Redefined

Conventionally, Mewing has been defined only as maintaining proper tongue posture—keeping the lips sealed and tongue pressed on the roof of the mouth at all times.

But as we have seen, there are certain environmental influences besides tongue posture that can impact jaw growth.

Therefore, my definition of Mewing is more expansive.

I define Mewing as all facial habits mandated by natural law for optimal jaw development and airway health.

Mewing primarily includes:

  1. Proper tongue posture, lips sealed and tongue suctioning on the roof of the mouth.

  2. Nasal breathing, which goes hand in hand with proper tongue posture.

  3. Chewing tough foods regularly.
