Pain Management with MARPE

How painful is installation?

Obviously not every MARPE installation is identical, so there is a range of answers here.

Some patients will have no surgical assist at all, others will have an in-office cortical puncture or piezotome cuts under local anesthesia, and a third group might be put to sleep under general anesthesia for EASE, MIND or the 2-Penn method.

For highly sensitive people such as myself, plan on being out of commission the rest of the day after your appliance placement and/or surgical assist, and probably the next day too.

I found it to be exactly as painful and disconcerting as you would expect screws and drills into the roof of your mouth would be.

I had severe migraine flare-ups for several days after my MSE install and cortical puncture in 2019.

I am an exceptionally sensitive person, though. Sensitive to food, light, sound, stress, drugs, etc. I do find that many other people in the jawhacking space are similarly sensitive.

And then there are other types of people who are not so sensitive, and have a much easier time with MARPE installation.

Consider this guy, who had a 6 TAD MSE placed with a piezo cut, all without even using local anesthesia.
