Summary Up to This Point
In part 1 of this book, we answered the question “why expand the jaws?” showing that there are two reasons: 1) improved health and 2) improved aesthetics.
In part 2, we discussed the role of Mewing, and determined that proper tongue posture and facial habits are necessary but not sufficient for expanding adult jaws.
Part 3 then served as a how-to instructional for actually learning to Mew.
In part 4, we began our discussion of “artificial” jaw augmentation, arguing that toothborne expansion is a misguided, dangerous approach to making the jaws bigger.
Now, parts 5 and beyond of this book will serve as a practical guide to valid, safe and effective approaches to artificial jaw augmentation.
These next parts are the meat and potatoes of the book, and are the parts that I suspect readers will be most interested in.
Aim for the Bone
There are only 2 legitimate options for artificial expansion in adults. What they have in common is that both target the bone, not the teeth.
The first is MARPE, also known as “MSE” or nasomaxillary expansion.
